Zhejiang Normal University
International Students Enjoy Samplings of Traditional Chinese Culture

Tuition & Financial Aid

Studying at ZJNU is an affordable experience for most internationals, given the subsidized tuition rate and numerous scholarships available. Scholarships can cover tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, and may even include a stipend for meals. Most students find they can live comfortably during their time at ZJNU.

In addition to scholarships arranged through international students’ home country institutions (often from university or government programs), a variety of scholarships are available on the Chinese side. These include national-level scholarships through the Hanban office, provincial-level scholarships through the Zhejiang provincial government, and scholarships arranged directly through ZJNU. Students may apply for multiple scholarships, but are only allowed to be awarded one scholarship at a time.

Students who receive the Hanban scholarship receive full funding for the first academic year. For subsequent years, scholarships are contingent on students’ continuing academic performance. Students who apply for and are awarded Hanban scholarships do not need to complete a separate application for study at ZJNU.

To apply for Hanban scholarships:
Step 1: Students must first receive a written recommendation from a Confucius Institute in their home country. The sponsoring Confucius Institute will approve the student online.

Step 2: Students must then submit the application materials online through the Hanban scholarship application website (www.hanban.edu.cn) by May 15 for the following fall semester.

Step 3: Chinese universities will review the candidates requesting to study at their university and will indicate online whether or not they accept the students. If students are not accepted by the university they hope to enroll in, they will be notified by email so that they can try to apply for positions at other universities.

Step 4: Hanban must issue the final approval online pairing students with Chinese universities and funding. Students who are offered admission and awarded Hanban scholarships will be notified by email, and JW202 forms and official admission notices (both needed for visa application) will be mailed to them.

Step 5: The final step in the approval process requires students to complete a physical examination in their home country, complete the required form [link to the document] including physician’s signature, and scan and submit it to the university.
